Fees & Billing Policy

Dr Clare Patterson Dermatology is a private specialist medical practice.

Our clinic does not routinely bulk bill, as Medicare rebates do not cover the full cost of providing comprehensive dermatology and aesthetic care.

Fees are set by Dr Patterson and aligned with the Australian Medical Association (AMA) recommended rates for specialist consultations.

General Policy

Medicare rebates (where applicable) are processed automatically via Medicare Online and usually appear in your nominated bank account overnight.

Prescriptions and Ongoing Care

Patients on prescription medications (e.g. for acne, eczema or psoriasis) require 4 – 6-monthly reviews at minimum to monitor health, side-effects and progress.

If you need a prescription between appointments, we may:

  • Provide a short interim script until your next booked review; or

  • Ask you to book a brief follow-up consultation.

Private fees apply for prescriptions issued outside a consultation.

Non-Consultation Clinical Services

Between-consultation services- including advice , letters, forms, calls or medication management – are considered clinical acts and attract a private fee payable on the day.
Documents or prescriptions will be released only once payment has been received.

Medicare & Private Health

A valid GP referral is required to claim Medicare rebates for medical (non-cosmetic) consultations.

Cosmetic consultations and procedures are not eligible for Medicare rebates.

Private health funds generally do not cover specialist dermatology consultations but may rebate certain medically indicated procedures. We provide detailed invoices to assist with claims.
